DrPH in Public Health

The DrPH is an advanced, professional degree program that focuses on developing future leaders in public health practice, who will advance the public’s health through the integration and application of a broad range of knowledge and analytical skills in leadership, practice, policy analysis, research, program management and professional communication. The program is designed for students who have a previously awarded Master’s degree, preferably a Master of Public Health degree, and at least two years of public health work related experience.  Additionally, applicants with a Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of public health work-related experience may be considered for admission into the program.

There are two major concentration areas of study available to DrPH candidates.  Students are required to select either Maternal and Child Health (MCH) or Public Health Policy and Management (PHPM) .

REQUIRED DrPH COURSES

A minimum of 36 (MCH) or 37 (PHPM) units is required in the major; 12 units will be from the required DrPH courses listed below:

The remaining 24-25 units in the major will be specific to the area of concentration and electives approved by the major advisor.

Total DrPH Minimum Credit Requirement = 63-64 units (based on concentration area of study)

Students entering without a prior MPH degree will be required to complete the five core MPH courses offered through MEZCOPH, or their equivalent, in addition to the minimum DrPH credit hours of course work in the major.  The minimum number of credits required for graduation will be 78-79 (15 + 63 or 64 units) based on the concentration area of study.
