
"Pandemic Preparedness," a special edition of Arizona Illustrated’s Community Conversation, will be shown on Friday, May 8 at 8:30 p.m. on KUAT Channel 6, southern Arizona's PBS station. The program will focus on the immediate impacts of the current H1N1 swine flu and how officials are making plans now for future mutations of the illness that may gain momentum in the fall flu season. The show will feature an interview with Richard Carmona, MD, MPH, FACS, the 17th Surgeon General of the United States, shown above.
Dr. Carmona – who served in a number of capacities as a healthcare official with Pima County before his term as U.S. Surgeon General from 2002 to 2006 – is scheduled to appear on the show along with additional healthcare experts. Dr. Carmona is currently a distinguished professor at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, and is president of the Canyon Ranch Institute.
