Spring Convocation for the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health will be held on Saturday, May 17, at 9:30 a.m. at the Temple of Music and Art, 330 S. Scott, Tucson, Arizona. A reception for graduates, friends and family will immediately follow in the courtyard.
RSVP is required. Please contact Kathy Ott at (520) 626-2112.
The Convocation speaker for Spring, 2008, is Bob England, MD, MPH, Director of the Maricopa County Department of Public Health, the third-largest local health jurisdiction in the country. "Dr. Bob" has been a public health doctor for his entire career, with most of it in Arizona. He is a University of Arizona alumnus, earning both his undergraduate and his medical degrees here. His Master's in Public Health (MPH) is from UCLA, and his Preventive Medicine Residency was completed with UCLA and the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services.
Along the way, Dr. England has held several positions in state and local public health, beginning in Pima County. He was the State Epidemiologist for Arizona twice, and has run both a very small and very large local health department. Dr. England has been involved in numerous outbreaks, epidemics, and the national, state, and local response to many public health issues. He hopes to share with the graduates a thing or two he's learned along the way that they may find useful.
Best wishes to all of the new MEZCOPH graduates!
