Public Health Students Awarded 2-Year Scholarship from Chicanos Por La Causa

 MEZCOPH Students
Congratulations to Ivette Arias (L) and Gilbert Arvizu (R), Chicano Por La Causa scholarship recipients.

Public Health students Ivette Arias and Gilbert Arvizu are both recipients of a two-year scholarship from Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC). It is the first time the Phoenix-based community development corporation has awarded scholarships to students from the University of Arizona.

Arias of Nogales and Arvizu, a native of Phoenix, are undergraduate students in the University of Arizona’s Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health.

CPLC offers assistance to disadvantaged individuals in Arizona regardless of ethnic origin. The organization provides extensive services in economic development, education, community development, and social services. In 1991, CPLC established the scholarship program designed to help students in Arizona overcome barriers, such as finances, so they can attend college. To date, CPLC has awarded more than 1,000 scholarships with a value in excess of $3.6 million.
