Scott J. Leischow, Ph.D. joined the University of Arizona in November 2005 as a Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine and Associate Director for Biobehavioral and Social Sciences Research at the Arizona Cancer Center Prior to that, Dr. Leischow served as Chief of the Tobacco Control Research Branch at the National Cancer Institute where he received several awards, including the NIH Director’s Award. Because of his leadership role bridging research to policy at NCI, Dr. Leischow was seconded from the NCI to the Office of the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and served in the role of Senior Advisor for tobacco policy. In that role, Dr. Leischow served as the Secretary’s point person on tobacco. Dr. Leischow’s research interests and publications have focused on nicotine behavioral pharmacology and the treatment of tobacco addiction, along with systems and social network approaches to addressing public health priorities. Dr. Leischow graduated from the University of Maryland with a Ph.D. in Health Education. He conducted his Post Doctoral Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in Behavioral Pharmacology.
