“The service learning experiences, program planning class, and internship allow you to practice the theories and knowledge you learn in the classroom.”

  • Hometown:

    Warrenville, IL

    Prior Degree(s):

    BA Communication, Minor Business from the University of Colorado at Boulder

    Before entering the program:

    Human Resources in the tech industry which had a large focus on employee wellness.

    Why did you choose public health?

    I have always been interested in how the way we say things can influence another’s behavior. Public Health provides opportunities for the real world application of behavior change to help people obtain their optimal level of health.

    Why did you choose MEZCOPH?

    The program’s people, organization, and resources stood out amongst the schools I was evaluating. Tucson has a great environment for outdoor activities to maintain balance in your life.

    Public health interests:

    Nutrition, sleep, physical activity, chronic disease

    Internship:

    Evaluation of Motivational Interviewing approach for behavior change in ovarian cancer survivors.

    Interests/hobbies outside of school:

    Running, cycling, yoga, meditation, reading, traveling, hiking

    Tip for future students:

    Grad school is what you make of it. Be willing to talk to people about their projects and open to the possibilities they present.
