"As an online student I never expected the sense of connection I've experienced at MEZCOPH, but on top of an expansive education, they have provided me countless opportunities to build relationships with this community of inspired and driven individuals."

    Hometown:

    Rochester, NY

    Prior Degree(s):

    B.S. Finance, Adams State University.

    Before entering the program:

    Since 2017 I have served as the Marketing Manager for Esperança, a global health nonprofit in Phoenix.

    Why did you choose public health?

    I have always wanted to serve the global community, and found my avenue for doing that through communications that shed light on health disparities. Through a degree in public health I hope to help further improve health outcomes and opportunities for historically marginalized populations.

    Why did you choose MEZCOPH?

    MEZCOPH has an enormous presence in the public health field. Before enrolling I had heard nothing but great things supporting their reputation and experienced firsthand their expertise in leading community-based practices and programs.

    Public health interests:

    Behavioral Health, Border Health, Global Health, Health Disparities, Health Promotion, Hispanic Health, Native American Health, Public Health Policy, Rural Health

    Internship:

    I am interning with Esperança, conducting a health needs assessment of the three identified nations ranked highest on the Arizona Department of Health Services 2021 Primary Care Index: Navajo Nation, Tohono O’odham Nation, and the White Mountain Apache Tribe. This information will help drive the next steps for Esperança's public health programming.

    Interests/hobbies outside of school:

    My husband and I run Ironman races, go hiking or camping every chance we get, and love on our rescues (one dog and one cat)

    Tip for future students:

    I have relied so heavily on the support of my peers and the MEZCOPH staff during times of doubt or confusion. Don't be afraid to reach out - it's the best way to feel confident in your path and make new connections!
