"The online MPH program has been a wonderful experience, I am able to take what I am learning in my classes and apply it to my professional work in real-time. Being able to integrate the academic perspective of public health and real-world practicality is awesome and has allowed me to grow."

Why did you choose public health?

I have been working in the field of public health since I was 15 years old. I knew from an early age that I wanted to help my peers become informed about health issues and be able to make informed decisions. I love that public health allows me to make an impact in my community, I can combine creativity and science, and I love to work with people. Public health definitely chose me!

    Why did you choose MEZCOPH?

As a MEZCOPH alum, I fell in love with the college and university during my undergrad. I love that MEZCOPH has deep roots connected with the US-Mexico border. Coming from a small border town it is important to me that our communities are recognized, and I wanted to learn more about how I can best serve them. The online aspect of the program allows me to work full-time, move states, and finish in a timely manner.

    Public health interests:

Behavioral Health, Border Health, Disease Management, Disease Prevention, Health Disparities, Health of Women, Children and Families, Health Promotion, Hispanic Health, Integrative Medicine, Rural Health, School Health, Tobacco and Substance Abuse

    Internship:

I am completing my internship remotely for Mariposa Community Health Center in Nogales, AZ. "Improvement of Substance Use Disorder/Opioid Use Disorder Messaging in Santa Cruz County Arizona"

    Interests/hobbies outside of school:

I love to cook and share recipes! I spend almost 24/7 with my dog Otis. I love to travel, read, crochet, embroider, live music, try new restaurants, and spend time with friends, family, and my husband.

    Tip for future students:

Believe in yourself! You are meant to be here! The online MPH program is not hard, just hard work. Organize your time, and try your best, and you will succeed. Also, reach out to your classmates, I have been lucky to make some really good friends, and having their support is amazing.
