"MEZCOPH has brought me academic, professional, and personal growth. It's made me a better person by educating me both on issues and solutions/resources related to health, and has helped me understand what public health represents for our communities."

    Before entering the program:

Before entering the MPH program I was busy working and completing my bachelors degree. I graduated in August 2019 and started the MPH program a few weeks later.

Why did you choose public health?

I switched from a biology major to public health after taking a health disparities course as an elective. The health of communities and individuals has always been important to me. As a low-income and person of color, I'm interested in the social determinants that shape our health. I absolutely loved the class and I realized I had found my place.

    Why did you choose MEZCOPH?

I chose MEZCOPH because of my great experiences as an undergrad, its homey feel in Tucson. MEZCOPH also has great diversity, which is important to me as a student of color. There's always something going with research or projects that you can get involved with and the professors truly care about you and helping you reach your goals.

    Public health interests:

Border Health, Health Disparities, Hispanic Health, Nutrition & Diet, Rural Health

    Interests/hobbies outside of school:

    Running, hiking, reading, sewing

    Tip for future students:

Get involved and get to know your professors!
