    Hometown:

    Phoenix, Arizona

    Prior Degree(s):

    BA in Sociology, minor in Music, Westmont College

    Before entering the program:

    Nonprofit consulting and volunteer healthcare advocacy. I’m also a mom.

    Why did you choose public health?

    In 2018 one of my children was diagnosed with 2 life-threatening illnesses. What I experienced both managing his diseases and then having to figure out how navigate the U.S. healthcare system on top of that changed my career aspirations and life trajectory.

    Why did you choose MEZCOPH?

    In addition to knowing U of A’s reputation, I wanted a program where I could take both online and in person classes. I was also excited by the internship aspect of the degree.

    Public health interests:

    Health Promotion, Public Health Policy

    Internship:

    Identifying effective communication strategies in Arizona to promote health equity, advance public health policy, and improve access to care.

    Interests/hobbies outside of school:

    Gardening/composting, dance and barre classes, the occasional binge-worthy show, and cheering on my kids at their soccer games.

    Tip for future students:

    Ask questions! Speak up! Your education is what you make of it!
