    Prior Degree(s):

    B.S. Community & Public Health, South Dakota State University

    Before entering the program:

    Before entering the MPH program, I was a policy intern for South Dakota Medicaid focused on care quality improvement and accessibility of maternal health services.

    Why did you choose public health?

    I initially chose public health because it was the perfect intersection of my various interests including government affairs, health care quality, and preventative medicine. As I learned very quickly, it was much more compelling than that. Public Health is about truly helping people live their best lives in a way I have not seen any other field. It's an exciting place to be!

    Why did you choose MEZCOPH?

    I chose MEZCOPH because of the strong ties to the community and the emphasis on social justice research and action. I was also very much looking forward to escaping South Dakota winters!

    Public health interests:

    Aging, Disease Management, Disease Prevention, Diabetes, Health Disparities, Health of Women, Children and Families, Public Health Policy, Rural Health

    Internship:

    Institute for Medicaid Innovation Midwifery Learning Collaborative

    Interests/hobbies outside of school:

    Running, lifting weights, spending time with loved ones, and exploring Tucson!

    Tip for future students:

    Dive in head first! Graduate school is a lot of what you make it, so it's important to branch out and try new things.
