Before entering the program:Before entering the MPH program, I was a policy intern for South Dakota Medicaid focused on care quality improvement and accessibility of maternal health services.
Why did you choose public health?I initially chose public health because it was the perfect intersection of my various interests including government affairs, health care quality, and preventative medicine. As I learned very quickly, it was much more compelling than that. Public Health is about truly helping people live their best lives in a way I have not seen any other field. It's an exciting place to be!
Why did you choose MEZCOPH?I chose MEZCOPH because of the strong ties to the community and the emphasis on social justice research and action. I was also very much looking forward to escaping South Dakota winters!
Public health interests:Aging, Disease Management, Disease Prevention, Diabetes, Health Disparities, Health of Women, Children and Families, Public Health Policy, Rural Health
Internship:Institute for Medicaid Innovation Midwifery Learning Collaborative
Interests/hobbies outside of school:Running, lifting weights, spending time with loved ones, and exploring Tucson!
Tip for future students:Dive in head first! Graduate school is a lot of what you make it, so it's important to branch out and try new things.
