During his visit to the college, President Garimella joined leadership, faculty, and staff to learn about the many strategic initiatives and centers in the college.

On Thursday, February 12, the college had the pleasure of welcoming Suresh Garimella, President of the University of Arizona. His visit focused on learning more about the depth and impact of our work in public health education, research, and community service across the Zuckerman College of Public Health.

President Garimella began his visit by meeting with the Dean’s Council leadership team for for an overview of the college and our priorities.  From there, he toured several laboratories in the Medical Research Building (MRB), including the Exposure Science and Risk Assessment Center (ESRAC) lab with Dr. Kelly Reynolds, the Center for Firefighter Health Collaborative Research lab with Dr. Jeff Burgess, the One Health Initiative research lab with Dr. Frank von Hippel, and the Environmental Science lab with Dr. Nate Lothrop.

The visit concluded with college leadership, joined by many faculty and staff, for a series of short presentations about our AI for Public Health Initiative from Dr. Onicio Leal-Neto, our Arizona Center for Rural Health from Dr. Daniel Derksen, our Zuckerman Family Center for Prevention and Health Promotion and Nosotros Comprometidos a su Salud program from Dr. David Garcia, our new School of Health Professions degree programs from Dr. Kevin Lohenry, and our Global Health Institute from Dean Iman Hakim.

We are grateful to President Garimella for the time he spent with us, for the care he brought to each conversation, and for the insightful questions he asked throughout the day. His engagement and leadership strengthen our shared momentum, and we look forward to building on it together in the years ahead.
