    Hometown:

    Majors / Minors:

B.S. in Public Health, minor in Spanish

What else are you involved in?

I am a weekly volunteer at the children’s diamond toy store where I get to engage in fun activities with the children in order to make their time at the hospital pass by faster.

Why choose the UA / What’s awesome about the UA:

It is because of the many scholarships that the UA offers to first generation and minority students that I was able to come here. The UA definitely strives towards giving as many opportunities possible to underrepresented minority students that is why I love this university so much.

Why did you choose public health?

My four years of high I dedicated many hours of community service working with the Public Health team in the Mariposa Community Health center. I went through a training where I became certified as a teen health facilitator. Seeing how my supervisor engaged in so many activities convinced me that Public Health is a very broad field where I could easily find what I am best at doing. The college of Public health is absolutely amazing, any student coming in from a different health career is sure to find a new career through public health.

    What are your career goals:

During the past two years I have come to realize that the prevention of infectious diseases and epidemiology are my highest interest and that is why I have decided to pursue a Master’s degree in epidemiology in hopes of later finding a job in field research for epidemiology.

Fun Fact about you (hobbies, trivia, etc.):

A fun fact about myself is that I am a certified scuba diver and that I am a violinist.

One piece of advice for incoming students (transfer and freshmen):

Many freshman come with a mindset that they are going to pursue a certain career but I just want them to know that it is okay to change your mind. The college experience is all about discovering who we are and what we love to do. That’s why it is always important to form strong bonds with your advisor so that they can help you realize what you is it that you enjoy doing and how you can change your career plan.
