The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health is dedicated to promoting health and wellness of individuals and communities in the southwest and globally with an emphasis on achieving health equity through excellence in research, teaching, and service. Our Minor in Environmental and Occupational Health serves as an extension of our mission to promote health and social justice locally and globally. This minor will provide expertise in environmental and occupational health, so you can help communities stay healthy as they face the challenges of climate change, scarce water resources, industrialization, and contamination.
Public health professionals who specialize in environmental and occupational health implement and manage programs that protect communities and workers from health risks such as contaminates, hazardous living conditions, or toxic working conditions. They have a big impact on the health and wellness of many communities in Arizona and beyond. Become part of the solution!
The Environmental and Occupational Health minor is available to main campus students. A minimum of 18 units are required for the undergraduate minor in Environmental and Occupational Health. Note: students in the BS with a major in Public Health are not eligible to declare the EOH minor.
Core Requirements (complete 15 units):
- EPID 309: Introduction to Epidemiology - 3 units (prerequisite of MATH 112 or higher)
- EHS 375: Introduction to Environmental and Occupational Health - 3 units (prerequisite OR concurrent enrollment in EPID 309 required)
- EHS 418: Intro to Health Risk Assessment - 3 units
- EHS 439A: Outbreaks and Environmental Microbiology: Then to Now (3 units)
- Choose one course:
- EHS 425: Public Health Lens to Climate Change - 3 units; OR
- EHS 484: Fundamentals of Industrial and Environmental Health - 3 units

Eligibility
2.0 GPA
Admission to the minor requires a minimum 2.0 GPA.
How to Declare the Minor
Step One
Take time to review the minor curriculum guide and course options to ensure that the Environmental and Occupational Health minor is the best option for your career goals and interests.
Step Two
Complete the online Public Health Minor Declaration Form. Note: Admission into the minor does not guarantee entry into public health courses as course registration depends on meeting course pre-requisites and course availability. At the time of graduation, minor coursework GPA must be at least a 2.0.
STEP THREE
See the academic advising page to determine your academic advisor (determined by the student's campus and last name). Once the minor has been added to your program in UAccess, you will have access to email and meet with your assigned minor advisor.
