Dr. Harber is an occupational and pulmonary medicine researcher, clinician, and consultant with particular focus on occupational respiratory disease, respiratory protection, and information systems. In addition to many research articles about occupational respiratory disease, personal respiratory protection (respirators), pulmonary epidemiology, and computer applications, he recently published a book entitled "Occupational Health for Higher Education and Research Institutions", and the book “Guide to the Medical Evaluation for Respirator Use, 2nd ed” (R McLellan & P Harber) will be released soon. Prior to joining the University of Arizona as Professor of Public Health, he served as professor of Medicine and Family Medicine, chief of the Division of Occupational-Environmental Medicine, and director of the occupational-environmental medicine residency. Dr. Harber is currently adjunct professor of Public health at the University of Arizona and professor emeritus at UCLA. He has been chair of the NIOSH/CDC Study Section (IRG), vice chair of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) for preventive medicine RRC, Board of Directors of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and positions in American Thoracic Society and American College of Chest Physicians. While director of the U Arizona Occupational Health Office, he led the reorganization of systems for U Arizona staff and faculty. Dr. Harber was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (ACOEM).
