Biography
Ken Komatsu is a native of Arizona and has been working in the field of infectious disease epidemiology for over 23 years. Mr. Komatsu received his undergraduate degree in Microbiology from the University of Arizona and a Master’s of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of California at Los Angeles. Prior to working for the Arizona Department of Health Services, Ken worked as a food microbiologist for Armour Dial-Research Center in Scottsdale AZ, as an infection preventionist/epidemiologist/quality assurance coordinator for CIGNA Hospital in Los Angeles, and as an acute communicable disease epidemiology analyst for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. Mr. Komatsu has worked with the Arizona Department of Health Services as an epidemiologist in HIV surveillance, as a Epidemiology Program Manager over Infectious Disease Epidemiology, and as a Section Chief over public health emergency preparedness epidemiology and electronic surveillance programs. Ken has been the State Epidemiologist since August 2006. Mr. Komatsu joined the Department as adjunct faculty in August 2010.
