Biography
Mark D. Van Ert, Ph.D., M.S., C.I.H., is a retired Associate Professor of the Department of Community, Environment and Policy at The University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health in Tucson, Arizona. He served as Director or Co-Director of the Environmental and Occupational Program at The University of Arizona for over twenty years. Currently, he is the Vice-President and a principal of Health Effects Group, Inc., an environmental and occupational health consulting firm in Tucson, Arizona. He is a nationally recognized industrial hygiene consultant certified in the practice of industrial hygiene since 1978. Dr. Van Ert has extensive experience in evaluating risks from chemical agents and toxic exposures. He is an expert in indoor air quality assessment and exposure analysis. He has participated in studies and training programs with various professional, state and federal agencies including the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). As an Adjunct Associate Professor, he continues to provide teaching and research assistance to the Department of Community, Environmental and Policy.
Dr. Van Ert received his doctoral degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Public Health, Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering in 1974, specializing in industrial hygiene/air pollution and toxicology. He also earned a Master’s of Science degree from the University of North Carolina with an emphasis in environmental microbiology from the Water Chemistry and Biology Program.
