The Bachelor of Science with a major in Public Health and the Bachelor of Arts in Wellness and Health Promotion Practice requires students to apply for advanced standing to finish requirements in their degree. Once students have completed the necessary required courses and have a 2.00 requirement cumulative GPA, students are eligible to submit their application for advanced standing. Please check with your academic advisor to determine the best timing for your academic plan. The information below applies to both the BS and BA degrees.

Advanced Standing Application Dates

As of Fall 2024 we will be eliminating the practice of multiple application deadlines and will have only one deadline in the Fall and Spring semesters that students need to meet when submitting an Advanced Standing application. Information about the Advanced Standing Process and Outcomes

  • Advanced Standing is a non-competitive process for students within majors in the Zuckerman College of Public Health. Typically, if the student has met the GPA and course requirements and submits an application with additional documents, they will achieve Advanced Standing.
  • The College of Public Health may deny Advanced Standing to any student who does not exhibit the academic integrity, respectful discourse, and professional engagement expected of public health students.
  • Consideration for Advanced Standing only occurs upon receipt of all required materials - including but not limited to the application form, resume, statement of objectives (if required), relevant documentation, etc.
  • The review process will take two (2) weeks to be completed, and will not begin until the deadlines noted above have passed.
  • Students will receive notice of their Advanced Standing application via their University of Arizona student email account upon completion of the review process.

You will receive one of the following admissions decisions:

  • Full Advanced Standing - Full Advanced Standing indicates that you have submitted all of the necessary materials and fully meet the eligibility requirements for your respective degree program.
  • Provisional Advanced Standing Status - Provisional Advanced Standing status indicates that you have submitted all of the necessary materials but have not yet achieved full Advanced Standing. Students with this decision will still be able to register for required courses and enjoy the benefits of full Advanced Standing, but must take steps to resolve their provisional status in order to avoid having Advanced Standing removed. Full Advanced Standing will require the completion of one or more provisions, outlined in the email you receive. Provisional Advanced Standing status typically occur in cases where students are currently enrolled in coursework that would bring them below the requisite units of allowable outstanding coursework, but have not yet completed the course and are therefore still 'technically' above the outstanding unit mark. Provisional Advanced Standing must be resolved (via the required action noted in the email) prior to the beginning of the semester for which you are seeking admission or by the due date declared in the email, whichever comes first. Failure to meet the deadline that has been designated will result in removal from Advanced Standing and all courses enrolled that require Advanced Standing will be dropped.
  • Ineligible to Apply for Advanced Standing - Students may be informed that, upon review of their materials, they are ineligible to apply at the current time. This may be due to insufficient GPA, prerequisite course completion, required documents, etc. Students may take steps to resolve their ineligibility and reapply at a future time or for a future semester.
  • Denied Advanced Standing - Denied Advanced Standing indicates that you have either not submitted all of the necessary materials and/or you do not meet the eligibility requirements for Advanced Standing for your degree program.
