A new podcast series from the Arizona Board of Regents features firefighter health research conducted by the Center for Firefighter Health Collaborative Research at the University of Arizona.

The Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) has launched a new podcast series, the AZ Opportunity Podcast, and the first episode spotlights innovative research on firefighter health led by Dr. Jeff Burgess from the Center for Firefighter Health Collaborative Research in the Zuckerman College of Public Health at the University of Arizona.

The firefighter health research study, supported by a Regents’ Research Grant, investigates how lifestyle changes may help reduce cancer risk caused by PFAS exposure among Arizona’s firefighters. PFAS chemicals are also known as “forever chemicals” because they remain in the environment for long periods of time and don’t degrade. The episode features insights from Dr. Burgess, Dr. Floris Wardenaar from ASU, and members of the Goodyear Fire Department.
