The health of people, animals, and the environment are inextricably bound, and One Health research recognizes the value added of interdisciplinary approaches to simultaneously study all three. Insights achieved at the intersection of human health, animal health, and environmental health provide a richness beyond their study in isolation. One Health approaches allow us to identify and solve problems for people and the ecosystems in which we live, ranging from zoonotic disease outbreaks to the impacts of pollution on human and animal development. At the UA, we are particularly interested in One Health investigations aimed at solving health disparities in vulnerable communities, whether they be in Arizona or in far-flung regions of the world.
