Strategic Plan Letter from Dean Hakim Goals About

Education

Enrich, diversify and expand our teaching programs

We will dedicate our instructional efforts to meeting the growing demand for future leaders who have the skills to apply their knowledge and solve the world's grand challenges.

MEZCOPH’s instructional goals are dedicated to meeting the growing demand for future leaders who have the skills to apply their knowledge and solve the world's grand challenges. Among such grand challenges is climate change, a global emergency that threatens the health, social, and economic development of all peoples of the world. The health and environmental impacts of climate change disproportionately affect poor and disadvantaged populations and contribute to the worsening of health and socioeconomic inequities. In pursuit of MEZCOPH’s mission related to the promotion of health equity locally and globally, the College will create and strengthen instructional offerings in climate change and health at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Equally, over the next seven years, MEZCOPH will expand its instructional offerings to address the University’s and Arizona Health Science’s strategic plan goals related to healthy aging, by creating and implementing an MPH concentration in Population Aging and Long-term Care. Strategic investments will also be made to increase workforce capacity to address the global mental health crisis that has been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. John Ehiri

“We face many emerging public health challenges, from the impacts of climate change and human migration to communicable diseases, mental health issues, and environmental degradation. Our education programs are designed to train the next generation of public health professionals who will meet these health challenges and guide us to a healthier, more equitable future.”
