Service Learning in Phoenix

Phoenix students in their red Arizona shirts gathered for a group photo

University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health students spent a week in the community, gardening and collaborating with social service groups in an intensive service learning course. Ten master’s students participated in the course that ran from March 10th through Friday March 15th, 2013, at community schools and agencies.

The students worked with Tiger Mountain Foundation at their community garden located at 836 E. South Mountain Ave and at Valley View Elementary Schools, 8220 S. 7th Ave., in Phoenix.

Faculty and students collaborated with the Valle del Sol Red Mountain Service Center, 1209 S. 1st Ave. and Central Arizona Shelter Services, 230 S. 12th Ave., to better understand the public health needs of the individuals they will serve. All three agencies are in central Phoenix.
