The National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health awarded the University of Arizona's Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health a $294,000 grant for student scholarships.

More than three million work related injuries and 125,000 workplace related illnesses occur annually in the U.S. The purpose of the NIOSH grant is to encourage universities to develop academic programs in the area of occupational health and safety.

Terrance Stobbe, PhD, associate professor in the community, environment and policy division, said the grant will pay for student scholarships so there will be a continuing supply of trained professional people working in occupational health and safety.
