The Degree
The Online Bachelor of Science (B.S.) with a major in Public Health provides students with a convenient and exciting way to get one step closer to their health professional aspirations. A unique and engaging avenue into the health sciences, public health covers a range of topics - from health promotion and disease prevention to eliminating health disparities and developing policy - through a proactive, population-based approach.
The Career Outlook
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of public health-related careers is expected to increase by 21% by 2022, resulting in approximately 109,000 new jobs. Additionally, graduates may work as educators, advocates, program coordinators, researchers, policy advisors, health communications professionals, or safety specialists. This major is also excellent preparation for medical, law, pharmacy, or nursing school or graduate studies in public health, public policy, geography, social work, or family and consumer sciences.
The Pathway
Students who pursue the online B.S. with a major in public health will typically enter the degree having the majority of their general education and prerequisite coursework completed, either at the University of Arizona or at another accredited institution. By completing these units before-hand, students may enter with as few as 60 units of the major-specific classwork, which could be finished in as little as two academic years.
