If you are inspired to guide individuals and communities on the path to good health and overall wellness, then this track is for you!

This track is ideal for students who are energized to share health knowledge and practices with individuals and communities through programs that can transform behaviors and lead to healthier, fuller lives. Upon graduation, students may be eligible to become a Certified Health Education Specialist by taking the certification exam offered through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing https://www.nchec.org/. The certification is not required to work in the field of health education, but it earns professional recognition and can improve career prospects.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Students will assess the needs and the resources of diverse populations in practice settings to promote health and wellness.
  • Students will plan health promotion and wellness programs for implementation in practice settings.
  • Students will demonstrate effective communication skills that are essential to delivering wellness and health promotion programs or services. 
  • Students will utilize evaluation skills in measuring wellness and health promotion outcomes.
  • Students will practice the application of ethical and professional standards in wellness and health promotion settings.

ADDITIONAL REQUIRMENTS

This major requires students to complete 6 units of practicum and 3 units of field work prior to graduation. Please see here for more information.
