Keep in mind that these resources are intended as a guide—each student’s path may look different. You will work directly with your academic advisor to ensure you are meeting all requirements, staying on track with your undergraduate coursework, and remaining eligible to participate in the AMP program.
AMP FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the timeline of AMP?
The Accelerated Mater’s Program is designed to have students complete both their undergraduate and graduate degrees within 5 years rather than the 6 years it would normally take.
When should students apply for the AMP-MPH program?
Students should express their interest in pursing an accelerated program as soon as they begin considering the option. They will be put in contact with the Director of Advising that works with AMP students to ensuring timeline and application deadlines.
What is the deadline to apply for the AMP-MPH program?
Once a student has completed 75 units of undergraduate coursework and has a 3.3 GPA or higher they are eligible to submit their AMP-MPH application through GradApp.
How many 500-level units can I take as an undergraduate?
Students that are conditionally admitted to an AMP program can take up to 12 units of 500-level coursework to use towards both their undergraduate and graduate degree.
How do I enroll in 500-level courses once conditionally admitted to AMP?
You will be required to complete the Undergraduate Enrollment in Graduate Courses Form. The form requires instructor signatures for each of the courses you will be enrolling in and the Director of Undergraduate Advising. Once completed the form will be submitted by our office to the Office of the Registrar for enrollment.
Can I take 600, 700, or 900 level courses while in AMP?
As an undergraduate student you are only able to take 500 & 600-level courses during your final year. You will gain access to the other numbered courses once you are officially admitted to the graduate program and been awarded your bachelor’s degree.
What is the GPA requirement for the AMP-MPH program?
The Graduate College AMP programs require a 3.3 GPA or higher in order to take part in the accelerated program.
What happens if I begin AMP, and my GPA falls below 3.3?
As an undergraduate you are required to keep your graduate coursework cumulative GPA at a 3.0 or higher in order to be officially admitted to the master’s program. As a reminder while you are an undergraduate you are just conditionally admitted and will need to maintain a strong academic performance to be officially admitted to the MPH.
What is the timeline for applying?
Completion of a minimum of 75 undergraduate credit hours will be required at the time of application; a minimum of 90 undergraduate credit hours will be required at the time of entry into the AMP. If the student's GPA falls below 3.30 at the time s/he has completed 90 units, the student will not be admitted into the program. Courses taken for audit may not be included in the total number of units counted for eligibility or admission.
What tuition will I be paying while I am taking part in the Accelerated Master’s Program?
During years 1-3 you will be taking undergraduate coursework and charged undergraduate tuition. Once admitted to AMP (for your senior year) you are eligible to take up to 12 units of graduate coursework which may apply toward both your bachelor’s and master’s degrees. During this time you will be charged at the undergraduate rate.
Will I be able to continue using my scholarship while I am in AMP?
While you are in your final year of your bachelor’s degree and taking up to 12 units of credit that will go towards your bachelor’s and master’s degrees you will still be eligible to use your undergraduate scholarships.
What happens if I take all 12 units of graduate coursework but still have undergraduate coursework to complete?
In this instance you would no longer be considered an undergraduate for financial aid and tuition purposes and will lose the ability to use your undergraduate scholarships while also not being eligible for graduate assistantships.
