The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health held a Convocation ceremony in Centennial Hall on May 11, 2013 to celebrate the success of 171 graduates from the Tucson and Phoenix campuses.
“I am very proud to congratulate our new alumni of the Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health. They have made great achievements as students, and I am looking forward to all the great things yet to come and to their continuous engagement with the College,” said Dean Iman Hakim.
Ninety-six graduates received a bachelor of science (BS) with a major in public health; 70 received the master of public health (MPH); one received a master of science (MS) in biostatistics; one received a master of science (MS) in environmental health sciences; one received a doctor of public health (DrPH) with a concentration in maternal and child health; one received a doctorate (PhD) in epidemiology; and one received a doctorate (PhD) in environmental health sciences.
Leena Patel received the award for Outstanding Senior Student; Aimee Snyder received the award for Outstanding Master of Public Health Student; and Laura Suppes received the Student Life Award.
The Delta Omega Award went to 13 students and alumni. Student Nominees: Juliet Charron, Dominic Clichee, Derel Glashower, Kristen Haven, Fidel Okoye, Mabel Owusu-Ankomah, Ginger Stauffer. Alumni Nominees: Kimberly Barnes, Ada Dieke, Joseph Grandpre, Traci Kodeck, Graciela Silva, and Marisa Spalding.
The following students received the award for Recognition of Academic Excellence at the Undergraduate Level: Cum Laude: Jessica Baggett, Elizabeth Brewer, Julia Brown, Kelsey Garlick, Nicholas Kothe, Cynthia Lee, Stephanie Marks, Alanna Meltzer, Megan Morales, Alyssa Nick, Gabrielle Price, Robin Smolin, Laura Stussie, Penelope Theodorou, and Mogan Tully. Magna Cum Laude: Erika Chambers, Daniel Coffeen, Meghan Denning, Gretchen Kurtz, Christopher Longwith, Kristen Marquardt, Grace McClain, Jacquine Stork, Cassandra Votruba, and Katherine Werner. During the ceremony, Dean Hakim presented the Awards for Excellence to the following faculty and appointed professionals: Kacey Ernst, PhD, MPH, assistant professor of Epidemiology received the Excellence in Research Award; Samantha Sabo, DrPH, MPH, program director, Transborder Initiatives received the Excellence in Service Award; Nicole Yuan, PhD, MPH, assistant professor in the Health Promotion Sciences Division received the Excellence in Teaching award.
