I chose Public Health because I’ve always been a social person who enjoys connecting with others, and I want to use that to make a difference, especially in underserved communities. Public Health has given me space to explore different perspectives and how I can bring these perspectives into my future as a dentist.
I chose public health because I believe healthcare should not focus solely on treating disease, but also preventing it. If we look at health from the holistic standpoint that public health provides, we can do so much good for the community.
I chose public health for its integration within underserved communities and science
I chose Public Health for the many opportunities I am given to support my community's health. Public Health is broad and provides students with many diverse career paths. By receiving a degree in Public Health I can see healthcare from different perspectives and learn about the various health challenges other parts of the world experience.
Initially, coming into college, I was undeclared for my major as I wanted to learn about a major that I was genuinely passionate about, but coming into college, I simply wasn't sure what I was passionate about. However, through the courses that I have taken while at the University of Arizona, I learned and increasingly became more curious about all the various barriers that many marginalized communities often face. Through this curiosity, I decided to choose public health because I wanted to develop a deeper understanding of health disparities and how to address them.
I chose Public Health because of the wide variety of educational resources and opportunities to serve the community that this major offers. Public Health is more than just a degree. Public Health builds a community that strives for the greater good in all aspects of health such as physical wellbeing, mental wellbeing, and equity for all.
I chose public health because it is the perfect intersection of healthcare preparedness and fostering empathy among students who want to make a difference in people's lives. With public health, I hope to work in developing communities within my home state of Washington and my culture in the Philippines to promote a healthier community with stronger access to healthcare and health rights. I believe that everyone, no matter their race, social, or economic class, deserves access to healthcare and health programs, and public health is the perfect degree for me to help enact that.
I selected the College of Public Health to gain a comprehensive and interdisciplinary understanding of healthcare administration, bioethics, environmental and occupational health, health policy and regulation, and health disparities among minority populations. My goal is to connect these areas of study in order to improve public health outcomes and promote the safety and well being of the broader population
I chose public health because it is the major that has given me the foundation to become a more well-rounded physician and community member. Public health is a field that looks into a wide range of factors at different levels, and studying public health has expanded my understanding on how to create meaningful change in someone’s life, healthcare systems, and the community.
I chose public health as a first step into the healthcare world. I believe preventative medicine is the best practice and I want to be a part of research and leadership that improves people's lives.
Since I was little, my dream has been to become a doctor. When it was time to choose my major, I was looking for something with health and everything that comes with it—like pollution, treating diseases, and preventing them, especially.".When I was learning about Public Health, I knew this was the right career since it discusses all these critical problems, including climate change, preventing disease, and promoting health. Through this field of study, I have learned all the different aspects of health, and it has confirmed that I made the right decision. My emphasis is on health promotion. This career helps me to be ready for the medical field.
I chose Public Health because I was interested and passionate about many different public health issues and wanted a career where I can focus on helping my community. Coming from a small underserved community that needed a lot of help during the pandemic, I realized how important public health is in all aspects of life and it made me want to help communities in need.
I chose Public Health because growing up in Mexico, I witnessed how limited access to healthcare and environmental resources deeply affected my community. Moving to the U.S., I realized these disparities don’t stop at borders; they just look different. Public health is the language of justice spoken through epidemiology, policy, and human stories. It gave me the framework to see community issues not as isolated tragedies but as solvable challenges. Courses like HPS 387 on Health Disparities & Minority Health validate my experiences and equip me with tools to address them.
I chose public health because I was so intrigued by the wide range of disciplines that not only impact healthcare but communities across the world. The field has become a passion as I have seen that through education and collaboration, so many improvements can be made to our society's well-being.
