I have gained insight into so many parts of MEZCOPH, and the connections that exist between students and peers (undergraduate and graduate) make this college unique. I would recommend MEZCOPH to any aspiring healthcare or public health professional because of the emphasis on well-rounded professionals and full integration of care within the community.

Why choose the UA / What’s awesome about the UA:
I chose MEZCOPH for the excellent connections and network of public health and healthcare professionals who are teachers, faculty, mentors, and students. The diversity among the MEZCOPH community is unparalleled to other public health programs, and I truly have learned so much from my peers and teachers' experiences. Further, MEZCOPH allows for special opportunities in discussing the significant health impacts that affect southern Arizona specifically. There are a multitude of opportunities for research and professional development in border health, indigenous health, minority health, climate change, water access, biodiversity, etc. which aligns directly with my interests and skillsets.
Why did you choose public health?
I first became interested in the field of public health through animal medicine and animal shelters. I was fascinated with the correlation and effects that spay/neutering strays and vaccinating pets can have on community, environmental, and human health. I have become even more captivated by the connections between socioeconomic, geographic, and demographic factors having an impact on individual and population health. By entering the public health discipline, I am interested in serving underserved communities and making healthcare and wellness accessible to all.
Fun Fact about you (hobbies, trivia, etc.):
Camping, hiking, traveling, exploring Arizona, hanging out with friends
One piece of advice for incoming students (transfer and freshmen):
Focus on extracurricular and curricular activities that you truly enjoy, it takes a bit to figure all of it out but when you find something you like stick with it! Also talk to everyone in your classes, dorms, anywhere, its great to have friendly faces and connections.
