Digital Health & Health Informatics Curriculum
The 9-unit Graduate Certificate in Digital Health and Health Informatics is designed to provide focused training in the principles and practice of digital health. Through three required courses, students gain knowledge in health informatics, interoperability, human-centered design, and health systems innovation.

Course Descriptions
BME577 – Introduction to Biomedical Informatics (3 units)
Driven by efforts to improve human health and healthcare systems, this course will cover relevant topics at the intersection of people, information, and technology. Specifically, we will survey the field of biomedical informatics that studies the effective uses of biomedical data, information, and knowledge from molecules and cellular processes to individuals and populations, for scientific inquiry, problem solving, and decision making. We will explore foundations and methods from both biomedical and computing perspectives, including hands-on experiences with systems, tools, and technologies in the healthcare system. Graduate students will be required to submit an additional assignment or project.
HP530C – Health Systems Design Socio-technical approach, Evaluation, and Implementation (3 units)
This course examines the relevance of design principles to digital health and biomedical informatics tools and technologies, guided by various theoretical frameworks. Students will learn to differentiate between techniques used in designing health technology interventions and develop skills to conduct technological evaluations related to digital health and biomedical informatics systems.
HP530D – Biomedical and population health Information Exchange, and interoperability, registries
This course focuses on the principles and practices of information exchange, interoperability, and the use of registries in the context of digital health and biomedical informatics. It aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, implement, and evaluate systems that facilitate the seamless exchange of health information across different platforms and organizations.
