Digital Health & Health Informatics

The Graduate Certificate in Digital Health and Health Informatics (DHHI), offered through the School of Health Professions at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, provides a comprehensive understanding of digital health, with a focus on the integration and interoperability of health information systems. Designed for healthcare, public health and technology professionals, the program helps students build valuable skills for a rapidly evolving workforce while supporting preparation for industry certifications such as the AMIA Health Informatics Certification (AHIC) and Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems (CPHIMSS).

Students gain expertise in health systems design, human-centered approaches, and the evaluation and implementation of health technologies. Coursework includes digital health fundamentals, socio-technical approaches to health systems design, and biomedical information exchange and interoperability. Offered online with optional in-person experiential learning opportunities, the certificate prepares graduates to contribute to healthcare organizations, technology companies and other health-focused industries.

Learning Outcomes

• Identify, evaluate, and apply biomedical, health information science, and AI tools to solve biomedical, community, and public health problems, including data collection, analysis, visualization and decision support.
• Design, implement, and evaluate solutions for biomedical and public health information challenges by applying computational, systems thinking, and human-centered design approaches.
• Incorporate social, behavioral, cultural, and human factors theories into the design and application of information systems and health technologies, with attention to user-centered, participatory design, community-based research and sustainable equitable approaches.
