Graduate Certificate in Public Health

The Graduate Certificate in Public Health is designed to prepare you to make a broader impact in your community and around the globe in the public health arena. This certificate is affiliated with the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and consists of the five core courses that are required of all MPH graduates. Upon completion of the certificate, students who are admitted to the MPH program may apply all fifteen credits to their degree.

Admissions Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 3.0 GPA. (GPA is based on the last 60 undergraduate units, or if the applicant has 12 or more graduate units, the GPA will be based on graduate units.) Official transcripts are required for proof of previous degree and GPA. 
  • One course in college biology
  • One course in college algebra, statistics, or a more advanced math course
  • One letter of recommendation
  • Resume or CV
  • Personal statement of experiences and goals
  • International applicants may need to provide proof of English proficiency

Graduate Certificate in Global Health & Development

Designed for professionals and those entering the field of global health, this graduate certificate program is a flexible option for those who wish to balance coursework and career, while maintaining an environment of utmost academic rigor.

The Global Health & Development Graduate Certificate Program is the product of many thoughtful scholars whose goal is to share knowledge that will improve the health and well-being of people around the world.  The courses meet the need for skill enhancement for both foreign and domestic individuals who have limited time to pursue a campus-based full degree program. Your participation in this program assures that the most up-to-date thinking in public health becomes readily available to communities virtually everywhere.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants to the Global Health & Development Graduate Certificate are required to submit the following application materials:

  • Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended. The applicant is required to hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum 3.0 GPA (GPA is based on the last 60 units, or if the applicant has 12 or more graduate units, the GPA will be based on graduate units)
  • One letter of recommendation is required from a supervisor, mentor, or other individual familiar with your work and professional abilities
  • Resume/CV which should include: educational background and employment experience
  • Written statement of background and goals (one page single spaced) that addresses the following questions: (1) Why do you want to enroll in the Global Health & Development graduate certificate? (2) How will the knowledge and skills acquired through your successful participation in this certificate be applied in your current job and/or support your career goals?
  • International applicants may need to provide proof of English proficiency
  • Applicants are not required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)

Graduate Certificate in Health Administration

Tailored specifically for health care professionals and those looking to enter the health care field, the graduate certificate in Health Administration is a flexible program designed for working individuals who wish to advance their career in a university-based program.

Upon completion of the certificate program, students will have mastered competencies in the areas of strategic planning and marketing, health budgeting and finance, health care economics and policy, quality improvement and health systems delivery. Each course is delivered in a 7.5 week format and courses are taken one at a time to accommodate the schedules of busy professionals. Students may start the program in Fall, Spring or Summer terms.

Admissions Requirements

Applicants to the Health Administration Graduate Certificate are required to submit the following application materials:

  • Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended. The applicant is required to hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum 3.0 GPA (GPA is based on the last 60 units, or if the applicant has 12 or more graduate units, the GPA will be based on graduate units)

Graduate Certificate in One Health

The Graduate Certificate in One Health is a unique program that allows students to recognize the connections among the health of animals, the environment, and humans; build skills assessing and addressing public health problems from a holistic view; and integrate a systems-thinking perspective to program development.

Given the nature and the need to address current and future disease outbreaks, the graduate certificate in One Health is designed to prepare the next generation of public health practitioners, researchers, and other professionals on how to holistically address the health impacts of complex issues such as climate change, infectious diseases, epidemics, and pandemics both locally and globally.
