Congratulations to Ana Florea, a third year doctoral student in the epidemiology program at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, for receiving the Electra Paskett Scholarship Travel Award to attend the 42nd Annual American Society of Preventive Oncology Conference in New York City in March. Ana received the award as the top ranked pre- or post-doctoral fellow submitted abstract.
Ana presented her research at the conference. Her abstract, titled: Ethnic Disparities in Gastric Cancer Presentation and Screening Practice in the United States: An Analysis of 1997‐2010 SEER‐Medicare Data, was published in the March issue of Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention.
Congratulations to Valerie Madera-Garcia, a graduate student in the epidemiology program at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health, for competing in the 2018 UA Grad Slam hosted by the University of Arizona Graduate College. Valerie received the award for best environmental presentation and third place for the grand prize.
Grad Slam is a campus-wide competition for the best three-minute graduate student presentation of a research or creative project. It is an excellent opportunity for students to enhance their communication skills while introducing the UA community and the public to the innovative research and creative work by graduate students at the UA.

Congratulations to Amanda Wilson for winning first place for her oral presentation in the Ecology, Environmental, and Earth Sciences category at the Emerging Research National Conference in Washington, D.C. in February. The title of her research is, Stochastic Discrete Event Modeling to Predict Effects of Surface Cleanings on Viral Infection Risk.
Amanda also won third place in the research category and a $150 scholarship at the 2018 Public Health Research Poster Forum.

Amanda will graduate in May with a Master of Science in Environmental Health Sciences (EHS). She will then continue her studies at the Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health to pursue a PhD in EHS.
Congratulations to the winners of the 2018 Public Health Research Poster Forum. Breanne Lott, a doctoral candidate in Health Behavior Health Promotion, won first place in the research category. Kathryn Tucker, a master’s student with a concentration in Health Behavior Health Promotion won first place in the community engagement category.
