Congratulations to Teresa Lobo and Alma Ramirez, health education and promotion professionals with the Juntos Por La Salud Primary Prevention Mobile Unit program in Phoenix, at the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health.
The Primary Prevention Mobile Health Unit provides free preventive health screening assessments, referrals and information about access to health services to underserved communities in Maricopa, Pima, Pinal and Santa Cruz counties. The program aims to promote healthy lifestyle choices for the prevention of chronic diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
The mobile units are run by faculty, health education professionals, and student volunteers from the UA Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health.
Lobo received the Award for Leadership with a Purpose from Nosotros Magazine and the Asociación de Emprendedores de Latinoamérica (ASELA) for her work and dedication to the Latino community.
Ramirez received $500 in scholarships for academic excellence and outstanding student in social work from from Mesa Community College. She is currently a part-time student at MCC and working towards a bachelor’s degree.
