    Before entering the program:

    For several years, I worked as a research specialist in the NAU Health Sciences department, where I partnered with the Navajo Epidemiology Center and other entities to determine the fidelity and implementation of the 2% sales tax on unhealthy foods and sugarsweetened beverages within the Navajo Nation. I now serves as a program coordinator in the Community, Environment, and Policy department, MEZCOPH.

    Why did you choose public health?

    I chose public health because I am passionate about improving the health of tribal nations through health policy.

    Why did you choose MEZCOPH?

    MEZCOPH has a diverse group of faculty members to learn from and engage with. I was especially excited about the addition of various Indigenous courses that were being offered and taught by Indigenous leaders themselves.

    Disease Prevention, Health Disparities, Health Promotion, Native American Health, Nutrition & Diet, Planning and Evaluation, Public Health Policy, Rural Health

    Interests/hobbies outside of school:

    hiking, biking, traveling, gardening, beading, creating

    Tip for future students:

    Take care of yourself. Make sure that you are doing things that make you happy and add value to your life.
