    Before entering the program:

    I worked as a research assistant at the Curl Agricultural Health Lab while I finished my bachelors degree at Boise State University. I was assisting on a mixed methods farmworker research project.

     

    Why did you choose public health?

    I really like that public health is a very versatile field and also ever since I was younger I had a passion for this area. I also saw the amount of struggles my parents had with health literacy and additionally living in an area where most people spoke English and not any Spanish was hard. Healthcare was also not as accessible as it should have been.

    Why did you choose MEZCOPH?

    I chose MEZCOPH because of it's focus on CBPR work and border health, it was the type of research I knew I wanted to do. Also when I came to visit I genuinely fell in love with the campus and faculty were genuinely so nice and welcoming.

    Public health interests:

    Border health, Farmworker health, The way in which Machismo, Marianismo, and Familismo play a role in Hispanic/Latino health, Hispanic/Latino health disparities, Public Health Policy

    Interests/hobbies outside of school:

    Trying new foods, Reading, Going to coffee shops, and dancing

    Tip for future students:

    Don't be afraid to ask questions! Also remember that it's your degree so you decide your pace not anybody else.
