Research conducted by the MEZCOPH faculty is essential for achieving our mission of promoting the health of individuals and communities. The broad spectrum of research conducted within the College is unique, since it includes basic science research as well as population and community studies. Having researchers with such diversity, within the same college, affords opportunities for collaborative projects that can bridge these different research areas. For example, recent mapping of the human genome has opened doors to better understand the role that genes play in diseases, but also highlights the need for such findings to be validated in population studies. Research within the college also benefits our students by ensuring that they are being taught leading edge material in the classroom and by providing opportunities for student participation on research projects.
