Hometown:Peoria, Arizona
Prior Degree(s):BS, Ecology & Evolutionary Biology & MPH, Epidemiology – University of Arizona
Before entering the program:I’ve been attending the University of Arizona since 2010, giving new meaning to the term “Professional Student.”
Why did you choose public health?Having trained in Ecology, I’m fascinated by the various ways humans are affected by and affect their environments. I like to think of public health as the application of ecological sciences to the human population, and I was eager to work in a field that works frequently on large scales!
Why did you choose MEZCOPH?The faculty at MEZCOPH provides great opportunities for students to become engaged with field and technical research. I felt that this college would not only teach me valuable skills, but give me the chance to put them to action.
Public health interests:Mental health, environmental sciences, and database sciences
Dissertation:Antibiotic Stewardship in Care Transitions and Long-term Care Facilities
Interests/hobbies outside of school:As a native Arizonan, I’ve learned to take advantage of adventures offered outdoors - hiking, day-trips, sightseeing, and the like. I love traveling around Tucson and finding new things, especially places to eat! My partner is the science journalist for the Arizona Daily Star, which gives me the chance to join her in exploring all things science happening in Southern Arizona. When we’re at home, we spend time with our two dogs.
Tip for future students:Always seek out opportunities on campus and in Tucson, even if it’s something outside of your academic interests. Tucson is an incredible place and an important part of Arizona.
