All Bachelor of Science students majoring in public health and Master of Public Health students are required to complete an internship project with a community organization. As a component of the Academic Health Department, MEZCOPH faculty and staff partner with health department personnel to support mutually beneficial internships for both students and health department staff. Every semester, the Academic Health Department offers internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. Role with the Academic Health Department: I work with the AHD planning committee and other interns in the preparation and planning of the Academic Health Department Fall 2020 Summit. I am currently networking with tribal health departments and colleges within Arizona to plan the AHD Summit.
Plans After Graduation: After I graduate in May, I plan to secure a job within my hometown on the Navajo Nation before applying to a graduate program. I am hoping to work in my community as a health educator to gain the knowledge and experience needed while working in Public Health.
Fun Fact: I run in Ultra Marathon’s and am hoping to do a second one in September!
Kate O'Driscoll

Major: Public Management and Policy with a minor in Nutritional Sciences
Role with the Academic Health Department: I work with faculty at MEZCOPH to develop infographics for mini-public health school presentations. The purpose is to focus on learning objectives within the faculty member's research and present them in a way that is "simple" to understand. I think this is a very important step in connecting science with policy making.
Plans After Graduation: After graduation in May, I hope to secure a job in health policy in either the Midwest or East Coast. Eventually, I would like to get my MPH.

Role with the Academic Health Department: Elizabeth develops infographics for the mini-public health school. Elizabeth says interning for the AHD “ has been a very educational experience meeting different people and putting their research into a visual learning piece.”
Plans After Graduation: After she graduates in December, she plan to continue working in graphic design at an adverting agency.

Zoe Bacaam

Role with the Academic Health Department: Zoe works with faculty and staff at MEZCOPH and Pima County Health Department to develop learning objectives for the mini-public health school. She loves to help with creating “great presentations about public health!”
Plans After Graduation: After Zoe graduates in May, she plans to purses an MPH and eventually a PHD in Public Health, hopefully Epidemiology or Health Promotion. She would love to do research and maybe become a professor.

Role with the Academic Health Department: I help give tours of MEZCOPH to Pima County Health Department staff as well as assist in organizing networking events that take place after the monthly College-Wide Seminars. I love getting to meet and network with new people and getting experience with program development.
Plans After Graduation: After graduating in December I hope to take a 1.5 year break before graduate school and secure a job in Public Health in Tucson. I also would love to potentially start a Girl Scouts troop to help inspire young girls within my community!
