The college’s Center for Firefighter Health Collaborative Research (CFHCR) will host a group of visiting firefighters from Korea on Wednesday, November 20, and deliver a day of presentations about firefighter health research. The university community and the public are invited to attend the presentations.
The CFHCR day will begin at 8am with a welcome from Dr. Iman Hakim, dean of the Zuckerman College of Public Health, followed by introductions and an overview of the Fire Fighter Cancer Cohort Study by Drs. Jeff Burgess and Melissa Furlong and center personnel and a subsequent CFHCR laboratory tour. Dr. Josh Gaither from Banner-University Medical Center will then discuss the medical direction of Tucson firefighter operations, providing a detailed look into local practices, and the group will tour the Emergency Department at Banner University Medical Center.
After lunch, the program for Korean firefighters will continue with a series of presentations on various health topics critical to firefighter safety and wellness. Dr. Leslie Farland will discuss reproductive health, Dr. Kelly Reynolds will address MRSA and fire station design, and Dr. Kate Ellingson will cover COVID-19 risks. The day will conclude with Dr. Tricia Haynes presenting on mental health risks and treatment for firefighters.
