From February 21 - 28th, the Peace Corps Prep Program and the Paul D. Coverdell Fellowship Program will collaborate with partners on and off campus to bring you Peace Corps Week 2023 at the University of Arizona. We will offer a variety of events and activities throughout the week to celebrate Peace Corps, facilitate discussions about service, and recognize the impact that volunteers have abroad and in our community.
2/21: Latinx Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Panel Discussion (hybrid)
A panel discussion with Hispanic and Latinx RPCVs highlighting their service and exploring unique advantages that individuals from these backgrounds bring to Peace Corps service.
2/22: Study Abroad as path to Peace Corps (online)
Students will hear from a panel of Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and how their study abroad experience connected to their cultural competency building for Peace Corps. Panelists will also share how Peace Corps and Study Abroad informs next steps in developing a professional career.
2/22: Study Abroad Peace Corps Mixer (in-person)
Enjoy light refreshments while spending time with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and Study Abroad staff to learn about global opportunities.
2/23: White Savior Complex & The Peace Corps: a community discussion (hybrid)
Join us for a community discussion about White Savior Complex, how it intersects with Peace Corps past and present, and how volunteers can work effectively and respectfully in communities around the world.
2/23: Peace Corps Reception (in-person)
At this event we will celebrate our Peace Corps Community, their service, and those interested in serving. Returned Peace Corps Volunteers will be invited to share their stories of service and advice for future volunteers. Current students interested in serving can find out what it's like to serve in different countries doing different types of work.
2/25: Social Mixer with the Desert Doves (in-person)
The Desert Doves is a nonprofit membership organization for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) in southern Arizona. Every other month the Desert Doves organizes a social event for members to connect. To help us celebrate Peace Corps Week, the Desert Doves is opening this event to non-members and those interested in serving in Peace Corps. This will be a great opportunity to meet and network with a variety of RPCVs in our community, many of whom are doing amazing work with nonprofits, governmental organizations, and other community organizations.
2/27: Peace Corps Info Session (online)
Join Peace Corps' state-wide and campus recruiters for an info session to learn more about Peace Corps service, benefits, and application process.
2/28: Service Fair @ Careers with Impact Day (in-person)
The Peace Corps Prep Program is partnering with Student Engagement and Career Development to include a service fair at their Careers with Impact Day. This portion of the spring career days focuses on employers where you can make an impact doing work you love.
Our Service Fair will include a variety of local nonprofits which align with the work that Peace Corps Volunteers do - so you can understand how local service and internship opportunities can prepare you for service in the Peace Corps. Many of these organizations also have Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) working for them, so you'll also have an opportunity to learn how RPCVs utilize their service to build a career of impact.
