Celebrate the launch of Univ. of Arizona’s Western Environmental Science Technical Assistance Center for Environmental Justice (WEST EJ Center) alongside Rep. Grijalva, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regional Administrator Martha Guzman, Pima County Deputy Administrator Francisco Garcia, Pima County Health Director Theresa Cullen, and University of Arizona Dean of the Zuckerman College of Public Health Iman Hakim.
The West EJ Center is one of 16 Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center Programs funded by EPA and the Department of Energy to remove barriers and improve accessibility for communities with environmental justice concerns. Please see event details below.

The West EJ Center’s goal is to work as authentic partners with communities towards environmental and energy justice through hands-on assistance, training, resources, and other support. Beginning at 11:30 a.m. PST/AZT, EPA's Environmental Justice team members and West EJ Center leadership will discuss how this Center will help underserved and overburdened communities throughout EPA Region 9, which includes AZ, CA, NV, HI, US Affiliated Pacific Islands, and Tribes.
In breakout rooms, EPA will highlight grants and assistance to support environmental justice priorities through the Biden Administration's Investing in America agenda. During this time, over a dozen local environmental justice-related organizations will be there to talk and answer questions about their services at a community resource fair.
Note that a press event will occur from 11:00-11:45 a.m. PST/AZT with limited space for reporters, speakers, and their staff.
