Join us in celebrating the lives of James E. Dalen, MD, MPH, and Jay W. Smith, MD. These former UArizona College of Medicine – Tucson top administrators, whose careers were intertwined for years, died within a few weeks of each other earlier this year.
Dr. Dalen served as the sixth dean of the College of Medicine – Tucson (1988-2001) and vice president of the UArizona Health Sciences (1995-2001). He championed creation of the Mel & Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health and Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. Dr. Smith enjoyed nearly three decades (1970-1999) on UArizona’s faculty, serving as director, Internal Medicine Residency Program; chief, Section of General Internal Medicine; and vice dean of academic affairs, College of Medicine – Tucson.
